10 STEPS TO BECOMING A TEAM CAPTAINWhat is a team captain?A team captain is part organizer, part cheerleader. A team captain is someone who likes to get things done and is willing to recruit others to help.
STEP 2: Make sure all team members have a pledge form and a postcard. Each bowler will canvas their network of family, friends, etc. to collect pledges to bowl. The pledges are a flat fee, not a per pin amount. Tax receipts will only be issued for donations of $20.00 or more, and only if requested. Also, we ask all bowlers to ensure that names and addresses are legible and complete with postal code. STEP 3: Adult team members are asked to raise a minimum of $100 in pledges to cover their costs. Kids are asked to raise a minimum of $25, students age 12 and up, $50. Reassure everyone on the team that if they can collect an average of $9 from 20 people they will have raised $180, which will allow us to reach our goal of $125,000. Bowlers who raise more than $150 qualify for great prizes.
STEP 4: With your team, decide if you’re bowling 5 or 10 pin. Cosmic bowling is a crazy mutation of bowling and a dance club! The lights over the lanes are turned off, and the alleys and pins glow an eerie colour thanks to the black lights. There's music in the background, and disco balls spinning all around. Not for the serious bowler! STEP 5: Decide when you want to bowl. The first shift begins at 1:30 pm. The second shift starts at 4 pm, third shift at 6:30pm. Both afternoon shifts offer 5 pin bowling on one side and 10 pin bowling on the other side. The evening shift features 10 pin only. STEP 6: Choose a team name - the lane will be booked under whatever name you decide upon. Be daring, quirky, or not; it’s your choice! STEP 7: Let us know by February 11/05, the name of your team, who your team members are, when you wish to bowl & what type of bowling. The earlier you confirm, the more choices you will have. Teams registering by January 31/05 can win early bird prizes. STEP 8: Call your team members prior to the event and arrange to meet them 15-20 early on the lane you’ve been assigned. Encourage members to meet the $100 minimum (this is where the cheerleading comes in!) and remind them to bring the money to the Bowlathon. Cheques can be made payable to the TRCC/MWAR or our full name. STEP 9: When you meet your team on the lane, collect their pledge forms and money. When the forms and pledges are balanced you bring it to the registration desk. You will register for the entire team and collect any rewards/prizes players have coming. STEP 10: While you’re registering, your team members will get their shoes and begin warming up. Once you’ve registered you can put on your shoes, pick up your bowling ball and celebrate! Your job is done! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Prizes awarded to the individuals & teams who raise the most money!
