Bowlathon 2004 Update
Now that we've had a chance to catch our breath, we want to thank you for such an amazing 30th anniversary present! To date, Bowlathon 2004 has raised $105,000 - over $87,000 in pledges and $17,000 in lane sponsorships. Your efforts have raised our hopes along with our spirit and helped us to surpass our goal.
We approached this anniversary with some ambivalence - how do we measure success when we never thought we would be here, 30 years later? Thanks to you and your team members, we can measure success not only in dollars but also in the way our hearts warmed seeing hundreds of women, men and children come together with such passion and commitment. We were further inspired to realize that each pledge of $2 or $200 involved a conversation about sexual violence throughout such diverse communities.
Branksome Hall kicked off the School Challenge with 10 teams, though U of T would win with 14 teams and $8,400 in pledges. The support of the progressive business community was at an all time high with Bikram Yoga and the Pride Business Network each contributing over $5,000 through pledges and lane sponsorships. 'The Professionals', a team of black men raised $2,000 and consciousness by selling white ribbons to other men who pledged their help to end violence against women. Just as we were falling short of our goal, the 'Holy Rollin' Bowlin' Babes' (a team of five lesbians) took us over the top by raising a record setting $3,640!
